Fall Sangria Recipe with Apples and Cranberries

Fall Sangria Recipe with Apples and Cranberries

Here in Chicago there is usually a violent push from summer to winter and this year felt more like a slingshot as we dramatically went from 75° to 40° in 2 days.  There wasn’t much of a fall this year, but I’m doing everything I can to embrace it, so I made this Fall Sangria Recipe with Apples and Cranberries.  It may be sub 40° temperatures outside but in my mind, it’s fall and I’m going to celebrate it as such!

Sangria is always a super fun drink to make no matter what kind of year, because depending on what’s in season you can make a really cool customized adult beverage.  For example, you may have a sangria loaded with berries in the summer time and like this fall sangria recipe, loaded with citrus, apples, pears and cranberries.  The flavors of each are completely different and still absolutely delicious.  To take my fall sangria recipe to whole ‘nother level, I thought it would be an amazing idea to chill each sangria drink after poured with some Lindy’s® Italian Ice!  That’s right, skip the ice cubes and use Italian Ice to not only compliment this fall sangria recipe but also to keep it cool.

No matter what time of year it is I always find myself browsing the frozen food section to see what’s new, and since my family has some of the sweetest teeth on the planet I am always on the lookout for frozen treats.  You wouldn’t believe how much ice cream or frozen treats we eat during the winter months, honestly you would think we are cold blooded humans.  While my daughter won’t be partaking in this fall sangria recipe, she’ll almost certainly be eating up the Italian Ice I bought to accompany my drink.  Since Lindy’s® offers so many different flavors it was a no brainer for me to go with the dark cherry and lemon to compliment my drinks.

I made 2 different sangrias with almost the exact same ingredients except for the juice and the Italian ice.  With just these 2 subtle differences the change in flavor is HUGE.  I used the same fruit base for both which was: oranges, pears, apples, cranberries and pomegranates.  You’ll notice a few different colors of apples in there but honestly, I was just trying to make it as colorful as possible.  For the liquid I used a sauvignon blanc white wine because it has citrus notes to it which make it perfect for this time of year.  I then poured a bit of apple brandy into each along with some simple syrup, which is equal parts water and sugar brought to a boil and then chilled.  For one of the fall sangria recipes, I used apple cider as the juice and the other one I used cranberry juice.  Each of those juices complement the other ingredients to perfection.  Also, you can combine the juices into 1 if you are looking for a tasty cran-apple juice in your sangria recipe.

I decided the dark cherry Italian ice would go well with the apple cider version of my sangria recipe and the lemon Italian ice would go well with the cranberry juice version.  To be honest they complement those drinks well but you could absolutely use either Italian ice in both for an amazing sangria drink.

If you are looking to embrace as much of the fall season as you can get your hands on, then I definitely recommend starting with this extremely delicious Fall Sangria Recipe with Apples and Cranberries.  It’s refreshing, it’s loaded with seasonal fruit and is always a hit when brought to a party.  Since sangria recipes can be tweaked I suggest using my recipe as a guideline and take out and add in any seasonal fruit that you love to make this sangria recipe work for you.
