This simple-to-prepare Italian Bread Crumbs recipe is jam-packed with spices, herbs, and cheese and makes for an unbelievable coating to fish, chicken, pork, or beef. My family has been making and using this since I was born, and it’s still one of my favorite things to add to food.

I cook quite a bit of Italian food as it’s always a family and friend favorite. If you’re looking to discover some new tasty Italian recipes, try my Spiedini or Chicken Scallopini.

    Italian Bread Crumbs

Italian bread crumbs are seasoned with spices, herbs, and cheese to enhance the flavor of whatever they are added to or coated on. They can be used on beef, chicken, fish, pork, veggies, or pasta. They pack way more punch than plain breadcrumbs and are a simple way to make food taste better.

This recipe can be tweaked by adding or swapping out the dry herbs or cheese. I like it because I almost always have all the ingredients already in my cabinet. My recommendation is to use it on my Italian-breaded steak.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

    italian breadcrumbs ingredients
    • Bread Crumbs – You can use store-bought or homemade bread crumbs.
    • Onion – I like using dry onion granules more, but powder can also be used.
    • Garlic – Dry granules have more flavor, but powder can also be used.
    • Herbs — These seasoned breadcrumbs only use dried parsley. However, you could add 1 tablespoon of dry oregano, rosemary, thyme, or basil.
    • Cheese – Finely grated Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino Romano is best to use.
    • Seasoning – I only used coarse salt and freshly cracked pepper.
