I love coffee with sweet treats, so I’m all about snacking on these in the middle of the day for the perfect mid-day break snack!
WHAT IS IT
Cornetti Con Panna is an Italian delight. You’d be able to find it at just about any café in Italy. It’s quite simply a sweet cream stuffed croissant. If you ask me, it’s like a delicious buttery sweet donut with some seriously amazing filling.
HOW TO MAKE IT
I do have to say that this recipe is incredibly easy to make. Yes, you can make your own croissants, but it can be tedious. I recommend picking some up from your favorite bakery to make this an easy snack and and get to stuffing!
From my research it looks like the filling is often whipped cream or whipped cream cheese. I really didn’t even know I was going to make this quick little snack until I stopped by the refrigerated aisle of the grocery store and spotted some Philadelphia cream cheese. Now, since I am a huge fan of cream cheese, I knew I would stuff it up with that!
I didn’t do this completely at random, I had just read about this classic recipe a few days before, so it was the perfect time to whip them up.
The best part about using something like Philadelphia cream cheese as the filling is that the possibilities are endless for the leftovers! Cream cheese is so versatile, and something you might already have on hand in your fridge. It’s one of those everyday staples you can always count on, but can also reimagine and experiment with.
I usually have some friends that come by my studio and work there during the week, so this was a fantastic mid-day snack with coffee. All you do is add the cream cheese to a standing mixer and whip it until light and fluffy along with some lemon zest, sugar and a touch of milk.
From there place it in a piping bag and stuff it up inside of some fresh croissants. Yup, it’s that easy to make.
Now because this can be altered and have a chocolate filling, I thought it would be cool to reserve half of the whipped cream cheese and mix it up with some hazelnut chocolate spread to give half of my Cornetti Con Panna a little chocolate flare! Cornetti Con Panna Recipe
- 1 pound of Philadelphia cream cheese
- zest of 1 lemon
- ¾ cup of sugar
- ¼ cup of milk
- 1 cup of hazelnut chocolate spread
- 6 large croissants
- Add the cream cheese, lemon, sugar and milk to a standing mixer with the paddle attachment and whip on high speed for 5 to 6 minutes or until light and fluffy.
- Remove half of it and place in a piping bag and set aside.
- Add the chocolate spread to the mixer with the other half of the whipped cheese mixture and mix on low speed until combined. Add it to a separate piping bag.
- Slice the croissants down the middle without going all the way through.
- Next, fill the croissants with the different fillings.
