For many of you that wonder what on earth it is that I do, I’m a chef first and foremost…
I’m also a video producer, photographer, blogger, digital and restaurant consultant.
Now if you want to throw in some other aspects of a chef and just life in general, I’m a father, husband, friend, electrician, plumber, fixer, doer, the list goes on.
Everything that I now label myself as, I’ve either gone to school for or have had extensive amounts of experience in, have brought me to where I am today. Sure, there are some nasty scars, a few tattoos, and lots of emotions both up and down, but I couldn’t be happier with where I’ve landed.
When I graduated from culinary school 20 years ago, I made $8.50 an hours as a line cook and worked my way up from there. It was all part of earning your place in the kitchen, it was just what you did back then. It’s crazy to think how my life and career have evolved so much – The fact that I do what I do today is insane to me.
In October 2018, I bought and moved into a studio in the city of Chicago, where I do all of my creating. When I moved in, it was this big empty space that needed a lot of love and most importantly a kitchen.
I added a title to my repertoire with this project – contractor. From mudding and taping walls (of course under the guidance of a professional), I wanted to ensure I was putting in my time to the space that I call my own.
I wanted to create a dual-purpose space, where one side of the studio would have a super loungy feel, kind of like Soho House in down town Chicago. The other side would be my kitchen, drenched in natural sunlight from huge windows for all passersby to see.
With huge 13-foot ceilings, I wanted to ensure that the kitchen was the highlight of the space and dude, it is. I am still in awe of how perfect this space turned out for me, and feel so lucky I get to create and play in this kitchen space every single day. Oversized subway tiles fill the wall from floor to ceiling, trendy navy -blue cabinets with a huge island, white quartz and open reclaimed wood shelving pack the kitchen with some awesome textures and color combos.
These items created a perfect setting for my the appliances to live within, which was super important for me to get right, because the appliances are hands down the most important part of my kitchen. I had to make sure my kitchen was super functional, while also conveying the vibe I connect with as a Chef and blogger.
As a chef, I need appliances that I can cook on, create on, live on, and most importantly that are meant for people who are seriously passionate about making.
My first experience with KitchenAid was when I was 13 years old and landed my first gig, as the ever-prestigious restaurant role of dishwasher. While washing dishes, the pastry chef was always whipping up delicious foods and when he made fresh whipped cream, you can bet, I was right there with a huge spoon ready to taste it.
He had a little white KitchenAid Stand Mixer in the corner of his station, which he used to make all of his desserts. Whether it was cake, infused butters or just homemade whipping cream, that mixer brought all of it to life.
Throughout all of the restaurant gigs I’ve had over the years, there was always one thing that was consistent in every kitchen – KitchenAid. Every single place I worked has at least one KitchenAid appliance in heavy rotation for the culinary team, so I knew through experience I could trust KitchenAid appliances.
When it was time to determine what appliances I would put in BPMVC studios, I knew I had to have KitchenAid. And now, I am super excited to reveal my studio and partnership with KitchenAid.
With the help of the KitchenAid team, we’ve worked out an awesome suite of appliances, including:
BPMVC Studios is loaded, suited up, and absolutely beautiful. Of all the appliances in my space, my favorite is this new KitchenAid Smart Oven+.
The new KitchenAid Smart Oven+ is seriously insane. This oven has innovations I’ve been thinking a bout for the past decade as something that would be incredibly rad to incorporate into an appliance, and now it’s here. My favorite part of the Smart Oven+ is its smart capabilities, it connects to your phone through the KitchenAid app.
I can preheat, turn the oven on and off, and toggle different functions right from the app, it gives you complete control of your oven from your phone. If I had this back in my restaurant days, I can guarantee I would have had more control and burned less food. I could have cooked without worry, which is really what the KitchenAid Smart Oven+ does.
It gives you confidence in cooking, especially with its multiple attachments, it saves time, and gosh is it gorgeous.
The Smart Oven+ comes with three extremely cool attachments to help diversify your cooking ability, with a steamer, a baking stone and a grill attachment. Amazing, right?!
From the Smart Oven+ to my culinary degree framed on the wall, BPMVC studios is legit and officially open for business.
