Summer Time Berries

In the bright early Summer mornings, there is not much more refreshing to me than a fresh berry and yogurt smoothie with honey and granola.  Sounds complicated right? WRONG!  It’s extremely simple and far beyond that it is delicious and very good for you.  For title and all intensive purposes let’s just focus on the berry portion of the recipe.  If you are a calorie counter than you will love how little calories are in berries and are still packed with awesome flavor!   Remember though BERRIES ARE AT THEIR PEAK IN SUMMER MONTHS!  They are cheaper in the Summer and the flavor is not even comparable to those outside of season.  If there is one thing that makes me crazy it’s watching folks walk of the store with bags full of fresh berries.. In this case stick with the frozen, they are cheaper and probably taste better.   Berries are packed with Vitamin C, they contain phytochemicals and flavonoids, which can prevent some forms of cancer, they are loaded with potassium, magnesium and even contain a bit of calcium.  Another great attribute is that there are so many to choose from, raspberries, golden raspberries, goose berries, blueberries, strawberries, you get the point, ALOT!  Since we already spoke about it, I might as well hook you up with the recipe…


Fresh Berry and Honey Yogurt Smoothie with Granola

  • 1 ounce fresh raspberries
  • 1 ounce fresh blueberries
  • 1 ounce fresh blackberries
  • 1 ounce fresh strawberries
  • 3 ice cubes
  • 2 cups of plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 1/2 cup oat and honey granola or any granola of your desire


  1. Be sure to wash all fruit and then in a blender add in all ingredients excluding granola and puree until completely smooth.
  2. Serve in a glass and fold in granola. Serve very cold and enjoy!
